THE QUESTION: ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER #1 preorders are due MONDAY!
Final Order Cutoff! Let your retailer know by end-of-day Monday that you want a copy! PLUS: an EXCLUSIVE first look at interiors!
Happy Friday folks! Hope you’re relaxing a bit as we head into the weekend.
Well, I won’t beat around the bush - the headline kind of says it all! The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1, by me, Cian Tormey, Romulo Fajardo, and Willie Schubert, is on Final Order Cutoff MONDAY!
Final Order Cutoff is a fancy way of saying preorder deadline. Comic shops have to finalize their orders about three weeks prior to release to ensure they get the number of copies they want. It’s a super-important date to hit and worth noting! Some stores are able to sneak in a few orders after this date, but by and large, this is it. This is your last chance to make sure you get a copy of this book - which is a key part of DC’s “All-In” initiative and a lead-in to Justice League Unlimited #1! Not sure where your comic shop is? We’ve got a link for that.
So, what IS The Question about? Here’s the marketing copy:
Who watches the Watchtower? In the wake of Absolute Power, the Justice League Unlimited has created a haven for all heroes — but can they keep it secure? Enter Renee Montoya, reeling from an abrupt end to her time in Gotham and looking for a place to hang her hat. But the Trinity didn’t bring her up to the Watchtower to relax — there's a dark threat bubbling underneath the surface, and only the Question and her ad hoc support team stand a chance of figuring out who the problem is before it's too late.
And here’s the truth: this is a noir story in space and very much embedded in the DC universe. It’s the kind of character-driven mystery I love to read and write. Messy people making big mistakes and trying to fix them in messy ways. It’s also an exploration of the mythos of DC - with some (hopefully) surprising deep-cuts in terms of lore, character cameos, and Big Bad. But most of all, it’s a story about Renee - her struggles, her demons, and her efforts to overcome them to do the job she was brought aboard the Watchtower to do - by the Trinity itself.
But enough talking - let’s look at some of these amazing, unlettered pages from Cian Tormey and Romulo Fajardo, shall we? Consider this an exclusive reveal!
Beautiful, right? That opening splash gave me chills the first time I saw it. Cian is doing his best work ever on this series, and seeing his lines pair with Romulo’s fantastic colors have been a real treat for my inbox - and now you get to experience it, too! And check out these amazing variant covers, by friends Jorge Fornes, Lucio Parrillo, and Danny Earls!
The Question is, hands down, my favorite DC character, and I’ve been honored to write a few Renee stories of late, and include Vic Sage in a few (for those of you wondering why Renee didn’t call him “Charlie” - be patient!). I love problematic leads, I love characters who struggle, and I love heroes that feel the weight of legacy. That all applies to Renee, who is our viewpoint character as we board the JL Watchtower and enter one of the most exciting eras in DC history. It’s truly an honor. As someone who obsessively read the Question work of folks like Denny O’Neil, Denys Cowan, Greg Rucka, and Cully Hamner, to name a few, this has been a wild, pinch me moment.
Hope you’ll give the issue a shot and help us continue to tell these stories! Let your retailer know you want a copy of The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1, and thanks again for your support!
How dare you steal a Dylan title like that? Shameless!
