OUT TOMORROW: SPIDER-SOCIETY #2!
Plus: ALTER EGO gets rave PW and Kirkus reviews, Goodreads + CrimeReads love, and a PEOPLE MAGAZINE mention + DICK TRACY #5 preview + more, more, more!
Hi friends! Happy Tuesday!
I hope your week is off to a good start. This is gonna be a quick one because I’m swimming in deadlines and starting a big new project that I need to wrap my head around. So, let’s get to it:
SPIDER-SOCIETY #2
First off, thanks so much to everyone that picked up our debut issue or shared their kind thoughts online, etc. We’re really proud of this book - and particularly proud of the ragtag group of Spider-Heroes we’ve put together to face off against the insurmountable threat of the Sinister Squadron. I’m amazed every time I see new pages from artist Scott Godlewski and colorist Matt Milla, both of whom are doing some of their best work ever on this book. Pair them with letterer extraordinaire Joe Caramagna and you have a recipe for something fun that feels exciting and fresh.
Without giving too, too much away (and please be wary of spoilers online), Spider-Society #2 really amps things up for our team, and gives readers a peek at the inner workings of the Sinister Squadron - plus a meaningful reveal! I hope you get a kick out of it. You can grab a copy wherever you get your comics. If you’re in the Brooklyn area tomorrow, I’ll be signing at Anyone Comics. Swing by!
In the meantime, here’s a peek at the second issue, which again is out tomorrow!

DICK TRACY #5
And if that preview isn’t enough, here’s a first look at Dick Tracy #5, the conclusion to our opening arc, which hits next week from Mad Cave Studios!
This book has really been a dream come true to work on, and the entire team - me, Michael Moreci, Geraldo Borges, Mark Englert, Jim Campbell, Chantelle Aimée Osman, and Chas! Pangburn - really hope you get a kick out of the first arc’s big finale, which also teases what’s to come with our second story. We wanted to start big and really establish our new vision for DT out of the gate, and now that we feel we have, we can explore some of the other corners of Dick Tracy’s city - and his superb Rogues Gallery and supporting cast. If you were shocked by the death in #2, stay nimble - we’re not being super-precious with anything, and our aim is always to create a compelling crime comic that features these iconic characters. Dick Tracy #5 hits next Wednesday, so be sure to pre-order wherever you get your comics fix.

CRIME FICTION FOR HARRIS
I was honored to be asked to be a part of Crime Fiction for Harris, a virtual event happening tomorrow night to mobilize voters for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. My politics are no secret - and it’s clear we are barreling toward the most important election of our lifetime. The choice is simple - do we want to stay tethered to the toxic tactics of Donald Trump, or do we want to turn the page and move toward an America where we are united in our belief that our differences make us stronger and that we have more in common than we think. A world where women have autonomy over their bodies, where the rights of ALL people are respected and protected, and away from the divisive, hateful rhetoric that’s become all too common.
If you watched the debate last week, the differences between the two candidates was stark. One stands for name-calling, hate, anger, racism, and grudges, while Kamala Harris stands for inclusion, lifting people up, and improving the lives of all - not just the mega-wealthy and partisan allies. As the saying goes, ignore the polls and keep working like you’re the underdog. If the last few election cycles have taught us anything, it’s that polls are always wrong and elections can be unpredictable. It’s about turnout and enthusiasm. We’re hoping to help build that here, with an all-star cast of writers that will be discussing the importance of the election, answering fan questions, and helping raise awareness for the Harris/Walz ticket. Did I mention Stacey Abrams will be there? Huge thanks to Alafair Burke and Kellye Garrett for organizing this hugely important event.
Register for it here.
QUICK HITS
Thanks to Novel Suspects for including Secret Identity in this roundup of crime fiction by Latinx authors, timed to Hispanic Heritage Month.
My next crime novel, Alter Ego (Dec. 3, Flatiron Books), is generating a fair amount of pre-pub buzz!
Publishers Weekly says Alter Ego will “thrill traditional mystery fans and comics devotees alike.”
Kirkus called Alter Ego “a ride worth taking, especially for comic book fans.”
Thanks to Dwyer and Molly at CrimeReads for including Alter Ego in their Most Anticipated Fall releases list!
And this is HUGE - Alter Ego was in PEOPLE FREAKIN’ MAGAZINE, as part of their spotlight on most anticipated books hitting this fall. Thanks to the amazing Silvia Moreno-Garcia for plugging the novel. So wild to see it alongside so many heavy hitters! PEOPLE MAGAZINE!!
Last, but certainly not least, Alter Ego was listed as one of Goodreads users’ Most Anticipated Mysteries and Thrillers…and books, period. Pretty awesome.
Also! My sci-fi novel, Dark Space, co-written with pal Rob Hart, is out in a few weeks. If you don’t like buying books, you can enter to win a copy here!
And, if you’re in the area, I’ll be taking part in New York Library Con TODAY! I’ll be talking about my Spider-Man work, novels, and lots more. Here are the details:
That’s all for now! Talk soon!
Best,
Alex
