Oh, hi - it's 2025!
As the dust settles on a whirlwind 2024, let's hit the ground running into the new year...
Hey friends! Happy New Year!
I hope the holidays were restful and pleasant. Hard to believe we’re in a new year already, but it’s true!
2024 was amazing in terms of work for me. Lots of meaningful launches, some great response from readers/fans, and overall a sense of “leveling-up” that I honestly didn’t anticipate. I’m grateful folks want to work with me, readers continue to support my writing, and that I’ve managed to carve out a tiny slice of this crazy business. All that said, I have to admit to hitting a bit of burnout as 2024 came to a close. It’s a lesson for me to be more mindful of my time and energy as the new year kicks off. Nothing to worry about, it’s more a “me” thing - I need to make sure I’m as focused as possible on the stuff that matters and practice saying ‘no’ to things that might be nice to do, but aren’t essential. All part of the learning curve! But enough about that - let’s get to these updates!
ALTER EGO: ONE MONTH IN!
It’s hard to believe Alter Ego has been out for just a little over a month! The response has been amazing - the book was an instant USA Today bestseller, and was featured in places like Cosmopolitan, The LA Times, The Hollywood Reporter, People Magazine, Parade, Book Riot, CrimeReads, The Irish Times, Miami’s CBS station, and got rave reviews from outlets like The Wall Street Journal, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, PW, Kirkus, and mentions in The New York Times, Writers Digest, NPR’s Kansas affiliate, BookTrib, and more. Whew!
For the first time ever, I was sent out on an actual book tour - which allowed me to meet fans across the country and feel the response in real time. It was truly special, and so cool to see so many folks share their thoughts on the book, Secret Identity, The Legendary Lynx, and all the other stuff I’m working on. Thanks to the fans, booksellers, conversation partners, and friends who came out to show their support. I’ll never forget it.
GREEN HORNET/MISS FURY #1 drops tomorrow!
On the comics side, I’m so excited that Green Hornet/Miss Fury #1 is finally hitting stands tomorrow from Dynamite Comics, courtesy of me, co-writer Henry Barajas, rising star artist Federico Sorressa, colorist Lesley Atlankski, letterer Taylor Esposito, and editor Joe Corallo. When Dynamite approached me with the idea of doing a GH book, I really latched onto the concept of having Green Hornet have a shared history with another great pulp hero, Miss Fury, and with my longtime friend Henry aboard as co-writer, we’ve been able to craft a fun adventure story that also explores some heavy themes - like what happens when the people we admire don’t meet our expectations, all wrapped up in a nice action-hero bow. The true icing on the cake is artist Federico Sorressa, who came out of nowhere with a detailed style that evokes greats like Greg Smallwood and Brian Bolland. He’s elevating the entire story and making this into a truly special project. Grab it wherever you get your comics tomorrow! I mean, if that wasn’t enough - check out these killer covers by Francesco Francavilla, Jae Lee, Jonathan Case, and Jacob Edgar, plus Federico’s jaw-dropping interiors!
And hey, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the second issue of the series is just coming off FOC! Let your retailer know you want a copy so you don’t get left behind!
SOME BIG STAR WARS NEWS…
What more can I say? I’m writing a story in the Marvel Star Wars Free Comic Book Day book, illustrated by the man himself, Phil Noto! The splash alone should be reason enough to pick up a FREE comic in May, but if you need more incentives, please know this epic issue will also include stories by pals Charles Soule, Marc Guggenheim, Stefano, Raffaele, and Madibek Musabekov! If you want a taste of what’s to come for Marvel’s Star Wars comics, you need this book.
But that’s not all! Our epic Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku maxi-series storms toward its big finale with The Last Stand, with issue #2 hitting stores tomorrow! Can Han Solo turn away from one friend to help others? Will Adelhard’s devious machinations derail the Empire’s plans for Jakku? Only one way to find out!

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS ‘THE FORGOTTEN FIVE’?
Can’t say much, but “watch this space” for whatever Sara Century, Pat Kennedy, and I are cooking up - which is vague, I know! But I did think it was high time to share a tease of a project that I’m going to be talking about a lot here. So, if you dig stuff like Chris Claremont’s X-Men and Jaime Hernandez’s Locas stories…this might be right up your alley. Lots more very soon.

Aaaaaand, as I mentioned last week, we’re rushing toward the finale of our The Awakened Zoop! campaign, which is hoping to raise some funds to create a print edition of our superhero murder mystery, words by me and Michael Moreci, art by Dean Kotz, colors by Jason Wordie, letters by Jim Campbell, edits from Brian Cunningham, and creative consulting from Chantelle Aimée Osman. DC METAL FORCE: TECH CRASH! is out today!
Had no idea this was coming? Well, surprise! I wrote a middle-grade adventure featuring the Justice League, and it was a BLAST!
So, yeah - also out today is DC Metal Force: Tech Crash! - set in the world of the DC Metal Force animated series! Words by me with spot-illustrations by Anthony Conley. It was an absolute thrill to get to write the freakin’ JUSTICE LEAGUE in prose form and also to see Anthony bring the story to life with his dynamic illustrations. For fans of any age.
