STAR WARS: BATTLE OF JAKKU - INSURGENCY RISING #1 is on Final Order Cutoff!
A quick, quick, quick one over the weekend
Hi friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful long weekend. I am, generally - we’re on vacation and I’m trying to “relax” and “not work,” but you know the drill.
I’m sending out a quick missive to remind you to let your comic shop know you want a copy of Star Wars: Battle of Jakku - Insurgency Rising #1! Monday is “FOC” for the first issue - which means it’s your last chance to let your retailer know to up their orders, and their last chance to change the amount of books they order. Comics are funky in this respect, but here we are.
Anyway, look at this awesome Phil Noto cover! Cinematic! Beautiful! Phil can do no wrong!
Insurgency Rising is the first of three four-issue mini-series spotlighting the final battle of the Galactic Civil War, the aforementioned “Battle of Jakku.” I’m writing all three of them, and I have the honor of working with some of the best artists in the business to chronicle this lost chapter of Star Wars lore. Insurgency Rising #1 features a main story by living legend Leonard Kirk and a backup by Stefano Raffaele, with colors by ultra-talented Rachelle Rosenberg and superstar and old pal, Alex Sinclair, with letters by the esteemed Joe Caramagna. Huge thanks to my editors Mark, Danny, and Mikey for coordinating this massive undertaking with care and aplomb. But…to the comic! We have pages to share.
The gang at ComicBook.com have a first look at Leonard Kirk and Stefano Raffaele’s jaw-droppingly beautiful and epic artwork from the first issue, which I hope you’ll reserve at your comic shop and - most importantly - enjoy! Here’s one of my favorite pages from the first issue:
Here’s the solicit copy, if that’s what you’re into:
CAN THE NEW REPUBLIC STAVE OFF AN UNEXPECTED - AND DEADLY - NEW THREAT? A DEFIANT IMPERIAL takes center stage - and goes on the offensive against the NEW REPUBLIC! LEIA makes a startling discovery in the forests of ENDOR! Who are the mysterious and deadly ACOLYTES OF THE BEYOND?! What is the new villain's connection to DARTH VADER? All this as the post-Return of the Jedi storytelling BEGINS!
I wrote this story with the original trilogy very much front of mind, trying to match the scope and energy of those iconic films and showcasing not only the adventures of heroes like Leia, Luke, and Han during this hidden corner of lore, but also by introducing some (hopefully) fun new characters and elevating a compelling big bad into the mix. I hope you’ll give it a chance!
That’s all for now - I need to go back to “vacation,” a setting I’m still not particularly used to.
More soon, take care!
Best,
Alex
Thanks for the heads up, just added to my pull box👍🏻
